Search Engine Results Page (SERP)
Search Engine Results Pages, also known under their acronym SERP, are the landing pages of various search engines that the viewer is redirected to after submitting his or hers query. The objective of Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing is to make the link to your website display on the first page of the SERP, ideally on the first position.
To achieve that goal, one can engage in Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertisement campaign or develop an interesting website, optimize it, and engage in link-building process, and strive to beat the competition in the struggle for the best placement in SERP for the targeted keyword or keyphrase.
If we choose the first option (PPC), our site will appear on top or on the right side of the results page, under the "sponsored links" section. Paying for advertisement on SERPs is faster, but more expensive. Cost per click, depending on the keywords, can range from couple cents to a dollar or more per click. The actual price of a click is determined by an auction system, where webmasters or marketers bid for certain keywords that they want to target.
The second option, trying to achieve a good spot in the SERP, is called a natural or organic listing. To get it, one has to engage in an ongoing process of improvement of the given website and promote it on the internet.
